Hello!

My name is Mrs. Tingley, and I am a fifth grade teacher.  I am one fourth of the North Star Team.  Mr. Pickering, Mr. Clark, and Mrs. Tatro are my teammates.  We work together to help 5th grade students be successful at PMMS.

I teach Science and Math to the students in both Room 1 and Room 2.  I also teach writing to the students in my own home room.

Homework Policy:

I assign homework in math almost every night, except Fridays.  On occasion, I may have to give homework in math over the week end, but that is the rare exception.  Math homework is due the following day, unless indicated otherwise.

There is very little homework assigned in science.  One assignment a week is the usual maximum.

Every week, students in my writing class have spelling homework due on Friday, unless there is a holiday or a short week.

Students who do not do their homework on time may earn a lunch detention with me.  In that case, they would go to the cafeteria, get their lunches, then return to the class where they can have a working lunch supervised by me.

Homework that is not turned in earns a zero in my rank book.

Any homework assignment may be done over for a better grade.

If a student is absent, Mrs. Tatro provides the missing work and the student has the same amount of time to make up the assignment as they missed from school.  (See student handbook.)

Grading Policy:

In each of the subjects that I teach, I allow students to do homework assignments over again if they get a poor grade.  It is up to the student to do the work over and hand it back in.  I will not chase assignments down to have them done over.  If a student does not understand an assignment, s/he can get extra help during Skills Block or make arrangements to stay after school for help.

I do not allow tests, quizzes, or projects to be done over for a better grade, however.

Homework is worth 45% of the final grade.  Tests, quizzes and projects are worth 50% of the grade, and 5% of the grade is for class participation (Does the student follow directions, stay on task, pay attention, and volunteer in class?).
